To complete the certificate, you will develop a portfolio that consists of the following:
- One paper OR exam from the capstone course (LIT 690-8 Paradigms of Modern Thought) and each of the four elective courses completed for the program;
- For each exam or paper, include a one-page explanation and analysis of how this work relates to Marxist analysis in terms of either its conceptual or historical foundations. In some cases the connection will be direct and in others require more elaborate analysis. A student might articulate, for example, how working on Sergei Eisenstein's films studies in a cinema course relates to Marx's concepts.
One primary purpose of constructing the portfolio is to recognize and explore the common theories addressed in courses taken across a student’s career at Duke.
