Rey Chow Elected Honorary Academician of Academia Sinica

Rey Chow, Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor of the Humanities in the Program in Literature, has been elected an Honorary Academician of Academia Sinica by the academy’s 36th Convocation.  

The honorary title is awarded to distinguished foreign scholars whose work has made internationally recognized contributions to academia. It is a lifelong, non-remunerated honor that carries emeritus status and life tenure. Honorary Academicians also assist Academia Sinica with policymaking and research planning. 

Chow’s work draws on theoretical, interdisciplinary and textual methods. She has published 10 monographs and more than 100 articles, book chapters, reviews and short essays. She has also edited and coedited several collections of critical essays.  

Her scholarship in modern Asian Pacific literary, theoretical and cultural studies has been excerpted, anthologized and translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Bulgarian, Slovene and Russian. Her work has also been the subject of special issues of “Postcolonial Studies” and “Social Semiotics,” as well as Paul Bowman’s monograph “Reading Rey Chow”.  Columbia University Press published “The Rey Chow Reader” in 2010. She is also an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
