Italian autonomist marxism, Open marxism, political economy, Spinoza, sovereignty, neoliberalism, Gramsci, abstraction and appearance of Capital, Ideology

I believe in and maintain a dedication to emancipation from systems of domination. I am interested in social movements of the late twentieth century, and more specifically, struggles for autonomy from the state and capital. My work focuses on the theories and writings of Italian autonomist marxists, the political vocabulary of operaismo, the growth of political affects (especially joy) in northern Italy in the 1960s and 1970s. I explore autonomy, too, in the literature of political philosophy, especially the writings of Immanuel Kant and Benedictus de Spinoza. My research will examine the relationships between autonomist Marxist thought, the development of political affects among movement participants, the creative tactics that marked the daily life of struggles in Bologna and Turin, and the state-sponsored repression of the movement.  Edit
