Critical Race Studies: Race and Racism in Black American Ordinary Life and Culture

This course will explore racial thought as it is encountered, negotiated with, or resisted by Black Americans across time, everyday life, and culture. By the end of the course, critical race studies, as a term for various forms of thought around race and racism--including critical race theory, whiteness studies, and critical ethnic studies—as cross-disciplinary forms of knowledge production will strengthen the students' intellectual prowess around interpreting the 'social text' and specific art and cultural artifacts.
